Okay, where have I been this weekend? I went to Malang. I didn’t go for a holiday. My grandma from my dad’s side just died last Monday, and she was cremated last Friday. Because it was Chinese New Year and people said it will bring bad luck if there’s a cremation on that day, we have to hold it until Friday.

Woke up at 4 in the morning, still very sleepy. At 4.30, my cousin’s driver picked me up, I thought he would pick me at 5. I didn’t get a change to eat something. I went to Malang with my cousins family, my parents were already in Malang since last week. We went with Sriwijaya Air, it flies directly to Malang, we wanted to go there faster, so we didn’t take a flight that fly to Surabaya. We arrived at this small airport, Abdurahman Saleh. Actually, It’s not an actual airport. It’s a military aircraft base. So that explains how small this so-called airport is. We are not allowed to take pictures, so you have to see it by yourself when you come to Malang :D
Anyway, we arrived around 10.30am. My uncle picked us and then we put our baggage at the hotel. After that we went to Yayasan Gotong Royong (Rumah Duka nya), met my big family. And I prayed for my grandma. The “Rumah Duka” is different with the ones in Jakarta. It’s not like a Rumah Duka after all. Not scary like the one in Saint Carolous or Atma Jaya. There’re many sympathy flowers outside. Around my grandma’s coffin, they built a small garden. It was really beautiful. By the way, they even have an event organizer there! They decorated our room. It was really different with my previous experience here in Jakarta. It’s more “waahh” here. So I’m pretty surprised there ;p The tradition is a bit different too. We didn’t follow any tradition when my grandma from my mom’s side died, though we’re chinese too. It was just a simple one. So this was my first experience with Chinese tradition :p
Because it was Chinese New Year day, there were not so many people. Some says it could bring bad luck!!Well, I do not know about that until yesterday. *sweat*

Woke up at 6am, my grandma was cremated today. We had a mass before we went to the crematoriun at Batu. After a short mass, did another tradition here, and the eldest son in the family pushed the button which means it’s ready to be cremated. We didn’t take the ashes yet, because the weather is not good, and it takes around 8 hours to drive to Pasir Putih. So we decided to “menyebar” the ashes after Chap Go Meh, but dunno when. Also, we didn’t need to wait until it becomes ashes. After that we went to a restaurant, and had meal. It was part of the tradition too, I guess. *i dunno* And it’s finished. *sweat*
After we finished with the “ceremony”, my family went to Sidoarjo to buy snacks. There’s a famous snack place called Senza. Our luggage was full with boxes of snack. Then in the evening, I visited my grandfather for the last time, because we could not go there tomorrow. Our flight was at 9. I had Tahu Campur too! Malang is the best place to eat Javanese food! I even had Kupang Lontong after lunch! It’s delicious! :p If I come back again, I’ll definitely have to eat Tahu Campur and Kupang again. They have those food here in Jakarta, but not as delicious as in Malang, also it’s expensive here. Tahu Campur was only cost Rp 4.000,00 while in Jakarta, it’s Rp 7.500. And sometimes the beancurd smells something bad. ;_;
For dinner, our big family dine in at Taman Indi . It has a very beautiful scenery at night ;) Must go back again!

Went home with the first flight in the morning. It was not a very nice flight. There were lots of turbulences ;_; Scary!
I wanna go back to Malang again. I miss it very much. I think I went to Malang around 3-5 years ago. Usually, I don’t go to Malang when I visit Surabaya. Next time, I have to drag my dad to Malang :p We need to visit grandpa too, since he’s alone now. He must be very lonely there ;_;
