Today I log on to my WordPress and there’s 2.8.4 updates available. I just upgraded my WordPress to 2.8.3 version yesterday! I bet there will be 2.9 version soon. LOL.
It makes me thinking to write this blog. If you’re an old school like me (blogging since ’99), you’ll probably remember GREYMATTER. Before there is WordPress, there was Greymatter back then. It is one of the most powerfull blogging tools at that moment. Well, there were lotd of them like Blogspot, Greymatter, and later on, Movable Type (MT). But unlike WP which is using MySQL, GM used CGI script to modify, it’s kinda hard I think and more complex.
There’re many people using blogspot at that time, then because the limitation of page and theme modification, I switched to Greymatter (or MT). It’s a self hosted CMS. You had to have a domain or get hosted by someone nice (Get hosted by someone else was a trend, among teenage girls!). The set up was easy, it was easy to make your own theme too (easier than WordPress! -but GM has limitation-).
I had tried Movable Type too. But it’s more complicated than GM or WP. And it has a lot of files, it was once not free (but it’s free again now?) so I don’t use it for a very long time and then switched to WordPress. I’ve been using WP now.
Too bad I never keep my blog from those days. I wish I was.
